The song commemorates the night of July 20, 1969, when people all over the world united to watch man's first steps on a surface other than that of Earth, and when pictures of the Earth taken from space showed one world, without borders or walls. The song then asks listeners to reflect on whether mankind seized upon that moment of unity and borderlessness or squandered it.
